Course Duration: 3 days
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Learners should have English language skills in Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.
- This qualification is approved for delivery to learners aged 16 and over. However, learners aged 16-17 cannot apply for an SIA licence until the age of 18.
ID REQUIREMENTS
- Learners’ identification is checked at the start of the course and before they undertake the assessment. Proof of identity options:
- a valid passport (any nationality)
- a signed UK photocard driving licence
- a valid warrant card issued by HM forces or the police
- another photographic ID card (e.g., employee ID card, student ID card, travel card, etc.)
- Learners without proper identification will not be able to sit the exam. Carry ID on the first day of the course and on the examination day.
COURSE CONTENTS
Total classroom days: 3 | Study hours: Total 30 hours (classroom: 22, self-study: 8)
Module 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry (Study Hours: 17 including 8 for self-study)
- Chapter 1: The main characteristics and purposes of the private security industry (PSI)
- Chapter 2: Awareness of the law in the private security industry
- Chapter 3: Arrest procedures relevant to security operatives
- Chapter 4: The importance of safe working practices
- Chapter 5: Fire procedures in the workplace
- Chapter 6: Emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
- Chapter 7: How to communicate effectively as a security operative
- Chapter 8: Record-keeping relevant to the role of the security operative
- Chapter 9: Terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
- Chapter 10: Keeping vulnerable people safe
- Chapter 11: Good practice for post incident management
** Self Study (8 hours): Learners will be provided with learning materials and a workbook to complete and return to the center prior to attending the course. **
Module 2 – Principles & practices of working as a CCTV operator within the PSI (Study Hours: 17)
- Chapter 1: The purpose of a surveillance (CCTV) system; the roles & responsibilities of control room team and other stakeholders
- Chapter 2: How legislation impacts on public space surveillance (CCTV) operations
- Chapter 3: The importance of operational procedures in public space surveillance (CCTV) operations
- Chapter 4: How public space surveillance (CCTV) system equipment operates
- Chapter 5: CCTV activities
- Chapter 6: Different types of incidents and how to respond to them
- Chapter 7: Health and Safety in the CCTV environment
- Chapter 8: Demonstrating operational use of CCTV equipment
- Chapter 9: Producing evidential documentation
Module 5 – Action Counters Terrorism (ACT)
- Chapter 1: Online training with tutor’s guidance
Assessment Method
This qualification is assessed by practical assessments and multiple-choice examinations.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Learners can transfer the achievement of The Principles of working in the private security industry unit if they hold and present one of the following qualifications certificates:
- Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry
- Level 2 Award for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance) in the Private Security Industry
- Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
Learners cannot transfer unit achievement from previous security qualifications (those available before April 2021) to this qualification.
